| Hardy: Hardy waterlilies are beautiful to behold, easy to grow and essential for a balanced bio system. Hardy lilies boast gloriously colored blossoms of red, fuscia, pink, white, orange and yellow. Changeable varieties range from tinges of yellow to red. Blossoms last 3-4 days, greeting you in the morning and bid you good day late in the afternoon. Hardy waterlilies begin blooming in the spring and continue to the first frost. They require very little care but reward you tenfold. They provide shade for he pond, cover for your fish, compete with algae for the available nutrients and charm all who stop to admire them. Warm sunlight, still water and regular fertilization is all that's required. Hardy lilies grow in zones 3-10. Weather you have a lake, a pond or a barrel patio pond, there is a variety for you. Hardy Lilies should be planted 12" to 24" deep. Dwarf do best when planted 6" - 18" deep in small ponds and containers. Tropical: Tropical waterlilies are either day or night bloomers. With one of each you will have color and fragrance round the clock. Tropical water lilies make a quite a statement. They give more blooms, (perfect for cut flower arrangements) they are more fragrant and can take the heat. If you are looking for vibrant, spectacular blooms in the most beautiful array of colors, the tropical Lily is for you. The first blooms appear in late spring, opening 3-4 days each, and continue until frost. Tropical waterlilies grow in zones 3-11 and can survive winter in zones 10-11. They need heat for good color and growth, requiring a minimum 4 hours direct sun and still water. In most of the United States, tropical water lilies cannot survive the cold of winter but many have successfully over wintered their tropicals indoors.
